Beginning West African Dance: Move to the groove! You will have fun, and gain rhythm, strength and confidence, while learning basic West African dance movements. Classes include warm ups, dance movements from various Malian and Guinean rhythms, and singing. Some of Madison’s finest drummers provide musical accompaniment!
Yoga Remix: Fitness and flexibility—two important factors in being “Dance Fabulous.” This combination yoga and Pilates class set to upbeat tunes hits ‘em both. It’s a great way to start the day and get your body moving.
The Kirstie Class: Feel intimidated by dance classes, but you love to bust a move? This is your class. This introduction to hip-hop is geared for dancers who view Kirstie Alley as their hero. Kirstie used hip-hop choreography as a way to lose weight and this class is a step in that direction. Get moving using hot moves that make you look and feel good—no matter what your size and shape. Never stop dancing! This class will get you back in the groove no matter how long you’ve been away from it—or if you never really started.
The Dance Fab “Special”: Flashdance, Showgirls, Striptease, The Full Monty…do you see where we’re going with this? Feel sexy and gain confidence with this class that introduces the tools of professionals. Sure, you could call it a lap dance/pole dancing class—but it is so much more than that. This class will introduce you to muscles you didn’t know you had and moves you didn’t know you could do. Lots of core strengthening exercises, stretching and a routine to put it all together are included. Beginners encouraged and all body types welcomed. Chairs & rotating poles will be provided—however, you may want to bring your own sticky mat for the floor work and high heel shoes appropriate for dancing. Dress comfortably.
Contemporary Fusion: Do you think ballet is too stiff and proper to have anything to do with down and dirty modern dance? Well, they aren't as different as you think. This class will explore the similarities between ballet, lyrical, and modern. You will learn how to take one movement and change it into another movement to create a different style. Designed to give dancers of all experience levels a chance to stand on your own two feet, this class will also teach improvisation basics. So whether you normally dance in front of your mirror at home or in a packed club you will gain the confidence to try new things on the dance floor. In addition to plenty of fun combinations, classical barre and center exercises are included. Shoes are optional for this class.
Stretching and Toning for Mothers and Babies: Love your baby, love your body! This class will lead you through ways to stretch, strengthen and tone all while holding that precious bundle. While actually holding your baby through the whole hour is not required, these exercises are designed to allow you to do so. Mothers get a great workout using baby’s weight, ‘cuddlability’ and smile. Moves are easily modified to accommodate your body and your baby. Ideal baby age for this class is about 3 months to walking. However, younger babies who are comfortable with movement, or toddlers who enjoy lots of contact are also welcomed. Please bring a thick baby ‘floor’ blanket.
Belly Dancing Fitness: Infuse you workout with the movements that make belly dancers famous! This fun aerobics class will inspire your body in new ways. Strengthen, stretch and feel beautiful all to the beat of Middle Eastern and World music. You won’t want to stop!
Beginner’s Belly Dancing: No belly dancing experience expected prior to this class. All ages, genders, abilities, shapes, and sizes welcome. Class will focus on basic belly dancing techniques through exploring the isolations of the abdomen, torso, arms, and legs that are utilized in Middle Eastern dance. Each class will focus on a different isolation, and will culminate in a brief combination set to music that utilizes this isolation. This class is an excellent way to try out Middle Eastern dance and to supplement your dance practice. Class will include aerobic, stretching, and strengthening activities.
Boot Camp: Looking for a little strengthening and toning action? Boot Camp is your Dance Fabulous choice. This class was requested by our dancers—including the instructor, Nicole, from “The Special.” Boot Camp is an excellent way to start getting in shape while maximizing your time. In just one hour, you’ll hit all your problem areas like butt, back, stomach and arms. An excellent strengthening compliment to the cardio workout dancing provides.
Irish Dance: Did you know there are at-least four different types of Irish dance? This class brings the best of all styles to keep you steppin’ and circling with the best of them. Fusing the fundamentals such as basic posture and steps with fun choreography that pulls from a number of Irish traditions makes for an exciting class and excellent workout. And BTW—you’ve got modern step dance (think Riverdance or Trinity Irish Dancers), old style step dance (similar to clogging), ceili dance (line and circle dances for groups), and set dance (sort of an Irish version of square dancing).
Intro to Break Dancing: There are few forms of dance more exciting to watch than Break dancing. Now, learn how to do it yourself! Learn the basic moves in this class tailored for beginners. Break dancing traces its roots to the streets of New York in the 1970s and contains the roots of many later forms of hip hop dancing. It’s one of the most fun forms of movement ever invented.
Intermediate Brazilian Dance: Come alive through the rhythm and movement of Brazilian dance. The Brazilian style of dance draws from African dancing, folk dancing, Capoeira and modern dance elements. You’ll love the captivating rhythms and exciting movements. Put some rhythm in your step! *Live drumming is often featured.
Bollywood Dance: Glitzy, lively and oh so sexy, this is dance for the pure joy of it! Experience a bit of India: Learn the basic forms and rhythms of Indo-dance with footwork and storytelling techniques. Hear authentic music from classics to contemporary. Bring all your favorite moves - ballroom, disco, hip-hop, tap - it's all fair game in Bollywood and mixing is the key. You'll find the moves you already love can easily be turned into Indo-dance. (Bindi and Scarves available for added inspiration!)
Zumba: Fuse hypnotic latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic workout system that will blow you away. Dance Fabulous's own Zumba class incorporates salsa, merengue, samba, cumbia, and other latin dance styles for fitness and latin dance fun! All levels of dance ability are welcome to come and move your hips to the music!
Hatha yoga for the heart and spirit: Explore hatha poses, breathing practices, simple meditation and mindful relaxation in a class that's designed for all body types and conditions. Let go of the tensions of the work week and ease into feeling peaceful, alert, and energized.
World music yoga/dance: With a background of compelling music from all over the planet, move through 20 minutes of gentle warm-ups and yoga asanas followed by a series of slow, and then increasingly active improvisational dance games and free form dancing. In the end there's time to cool down and finish off with more yoga stretches, focus on breathing, and rest. Yoga/dance combines the benefits of slow yoga with a fun aerobic workout, exposure to some great music, and the chance for creative movement in a supportive, friendly environment.
